Amitabh Bachchan was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan award this year. The award is the third Padma award for the actor, who has earlier received the Padma Shri in 1984, and the Padma Bhushan in 2001, and the seventh in his family.

The actor tweeted, “T 1749 – To them that congratulate me on the Padma Vibhushan, I can only say, if it were not for you, I would not be worthy to receive it!!”

On his blog, the megastar wrote, “The Government of India has decorated me with the highest Padma Award of the country, the Padma Vibhushan. I have no words to express my gratitude to the powers that be and am most humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of the people that decide or sit on judgment on this.”

“There are totally now 7 Padma Awards in the family.

My Father – the Padma Shree and the Padma Bhushan;

Jaya – Padma Shree;

Aishwarya – Padma Shree;

Amitabh Bachchan – Padma Shree, Bhushan and Vibhushan.

So, honoured and grateful to the Govt of India for all these recognitions. In one family this must be perhaps the only reference or case in the country. I feel blessed and honoured, fortunate and humbled, overwhelmed and submerged by the affection and love of the people,” Big B wrote.

The veteran actor, whose contribution to Indian cinema has spanned more than four decades, still continues to charm his audience with his work. At 72, there’s nothing that can slow this star down, or so would agree his directors and co-stars. The actor is currently working in films like Shamitabh, Piku and Wazir.
